WhatsApp has been teasing the dark mode to all its users since it was launched in the beta version. Now, the company might finally be close to an official launch of the feature to the stable versions of the application.
WhatsApp has not released any official statement regarding the dark mode being rolled out to all users but the company’s official twitter handle has changed its logo from the popular green icon to a black icon with no colour. Similar changes have been made to other social media accounts as well. The company’s Facebook and Instagram handles have also updated their respective profiles. This clearly indicates that the company is planning to launch the new feature soon.
WhatsApp update tracker, WABetaInfo highlighted the changes. The website claims that the update is getting close for all users. The new feature is expected to launch in the coming updates of WhatsApp.
The beta version of the app received various updates to stabilize the feature. Users running the Beta version of the app can access the feature by going into ‘setting’, tapping on ‘Chats’ and then entering the ‘Display’ option. The user can then choose the ‘Dark Theme’ option. The upcoming stable version is also expected to feature the same steps to activate the dark mode theme.
There are two main functional uses of the dark mode. The first and more obvious application of is that the user will not have to strain their eyes at night as the default background of the application is quite bright. Secondly, the dark mode will help save power for phones that use any kind of OLED screen. Pixels on an OLED screen don’t need to stay on to push out black colour. This also yields higher contrast in comparison to LCD screens.
